Position Summary Statement

This position sits within Data Strategy’s Data & Content Management team , which contains our VentureSource, Company & Executive, Content and Market Data teams.

The Content subgroup is responsible for developing, processing, monitoring and managing content within Factiva products and services. The group ensures the timely and accurate delivery of content and ensures the effective dissemination of information about our content to customers, publishers and PIB colleagues.

Content Development , within Content and with team members in Singapore, Barcelona and Princeton, use a follow-the-sun model to ensure the successful technical ‘development’ of content sets for Factiva products.

The Manager, Content Development , oversees all aspects of content ingestion including development of new content sets, ensuring information provider (IP) data formats are translated cleanly into Factiva format, and maintaining all 1,500 existing IP formats. The manager oversees the process of content addition from IP contract to appearance on Factiva products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises a group of content analysts in developing and maintaining content sets for Factiva products and services, including mapping provider formats and establishing data capture procedures.

  • Sets the priorities for content processing working, ensuring content loading targets for onboarding new content sets are met.

  • Oversees content processing work handled by in-house and outsourced technical teams to ensure content processing programs (filters) are completed per quality and timeliness standards.

  • Instructs in-house and outsourced technical teams on work priorities, policies, procedures, best practices and maximizing efficiencies.

  • Manages the testing of new and modified filters – approximately 300 per year -- to ensure the continuous updating and accurate conversion of Factiva content.

  • Oversees all aspects of content management tool development including defining functional requirements, finding improvements, overseeing testing, authoring user documentation and global rollout to and training of users.

  • Works with different groups to implement functional requirements and ensure that systems built support those priorities.

  • Ensures non-standard content sets (ie, new types of content or changes to support new products such as WSJ Pro) are successfully rolled out.

  • Supervises a staff of three, issuing assignments, balancing workloads and evaluating performance.

Key Relationships

  • Works directly with information providers to ingest their content, including understanding and mapping their data format and establishing data capture protocols.

  • Works with Content Licensing, and other business partners, to specify, locate and develop new forms of content that are meaningful to business and information professionals.

  • Works with internal teams (Content Operations, Autocoding) on content format, updating and tagging issues.

  • Works with Factiva and partner technologists to ensure content development work is aligned with Factiva content and product strategies.

  • Works with customer-facing staff on content development questions.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in information management products, services and systems, showing an increasing level of responsibility.

  • People management experience or a demonstrated ability to lead.

  • Successful track record of managing projects/programs of real or virtual teams while providing oversight of geographically dispersed projects.

  • Detailed understanding of methods used to develop, serve and maintain online content including content management and enrichment technologies.

  • Understanding of the Factiva Source Processing system and the content management tools that support it.

  • Detailed knowledge of data formats (such as XML, HTML) and data capture protocols (such as FTP, HTTP, RSS).

  • Experience in mapping third-party data to an internal and proprietary tagged data format.

  • Experience in testing content and product enhancements.

  • Keen problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to evaluate issues and conflicts and make timely decisions that benefit the customer and the business.

  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and high quality standards.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of global audiences in writing and speech.

  • Highly reliable, responsible and accountable for group and individual goals
